Well, I'm officially making pizzas at Funstation now. Exactly like working concessions at AMC, which blew dick. We'll see how long I hold out before I'm absolutely tired of it. I'm already pretty close after just a four hour shift today. Hopefully the whole money thing will soften the pain come payday.
One nice thing though: its easy as shit. Three days in and I'll be closing by myself. Okay, sure.
On a different note, I recently looked back on all the art I did this year... I feel like I worked my ass off, but I'd probably disown 90% of the stuff I made. What the heck. Kind of put me in a mood.
Jon and his girl Dareen passed through town yesterday and today; went to the Ale House and Momo's and out for coffee, now I don't have any grocery money. Again. Totally worth it though, I've been so bored this last week.
Gonna try to sell some prints and some work tonight at the warehouse. If I can make enough scratch, I'm planning on spending it on ink for some t-shirts which I will then also sell later. Also, for all my buddies reading this, if you want a shirt, just buy a blank (I'll figure out what color soon) and get it to me and I'll make you one for like $5.00
And speaking of money, had a job interview with Pac Sun today for some seasonal work... retail interviews are weird.
Also, my new website design is done, if anyone hasn't seen it yet. Feedback appreciated.
EDIT: goddammit I can't believe I only sold one print. I was really counting on making some money tonight... -__-
Staying up late because I don't want tomorrow to come and make me have to go to work. I have a feeling it's not going to be a great shift tomorrow.
Spent the morning finishing up a drawing for the show today, then headed off to the warehouse to hang it. Spent most of the rest of the day there. First Friday was lots of fun, even though none of my closest friends were there since most of them are out of town or working this weekend; I hung out with lots of outer-circle folks instead and still had a pretty good time, so no loss. The turnout was huge, I guess because it was the first FF of the fall semester. It'd be nice if it that many people showed up every time, but it'll probably start to wind down as the year goes on.
Almost went to a house party after the warehouse closed, but went home and passed out for an hour instead. I woke up and realized I had only had one meal all day, so I got up made some supper and watched the last half of Trains, Planes, & Automobiles on TV. Just been postponing the inevitable since then, staying up messing around online. Yawn.
Heard this at St. Michael's last night, capped off a pretty tiring school week:
It's starting to look like I'm going to have a very boring week now. Nobody cool is coming back until at least Thursday. My DS has been seeing a lot of play recently.
One bit of cool news, though: I got a new studio space that is both spacious and well-lit, which are two things my old studio space could not boast. As soon as my key card gets on the system, I am going to be working my butt off in there. I SWEAR TO IT.
And in more art-related news, I've been entertaining the idea of doing some more DBH submissions, so... I did. Here's one, I've got maybe two more in the works? We'll see. Just trying to loosen up and not take this crap so seriously, so I just draw what comes natural - one of which is angry looking heads.
Ah, a new year. The festivities didn't really pan out as planned, but Jon, Chance, and myself ended up at Matt and Sarah's apartment in Pensacola, and had a pretty decent time.
Went to the Tropical Palm here in Crestview for the first time yesterday - the name has nothing to do with the actual food they sell there. "Country Pine" might be a better descriptor; it was all chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, fried okra, etc. Darn good, though - I had a quarter of a chicken, mashed potatoes, and a couple dinner rolls... and I couldn't finish my plate, the portions were so generous.
Today will probably be my last full day in Crestview, I'm planning on heading back to Tallahassee sometime tomorrow.
But first, I'm going to Panama City tonight to check out the opening of the Hyper-Extended Elbows art show that Dan, Aaron, and Greg are hosting. The plan right now is that Hailey, Russ, Jon and Chance are all going with me in my car. I am so tired of driving lately, but I'm excited to go see the show, and this is probably going to be the last cool thing I do over the holidays, so whatever. After I get back to Tallahassee tomorrow, I'll be done with the two-hour-long road trips for a while, anyway.
Speaking of Tallahassee, I feel really unprepared for school - I don't know my schedule, I don't know my grades from last semester, and (worst case scenario) I might have a hold on my whole damn semester, depending on what kind of crap the billing department pulls on me. I have a feeling everything school-related is going to be hectic for the first week or two while I try to get everything sorted out... and on top of school stuff, I've got to find a new job. ugh... I am not looking forward to all this crap I've got to deal with, but I've been so bored here lately, it'll be a welcome change of pace. Plus, I'm really lusting after some Momo's pizza...
Man, I'm starving. Where can I get a Mountain Dew around here?
Well it's pretty much go time over here for the BFA thing tommorow... gonna try to wake up early and go with a friend who's also applying so we can get spots next to each other, and in a good location (gotta beat the crowd). Then I'll have to run over to the copy shop and get a couple posters printed out that I forgot about today... really hope I wake up on time.
I wanted to get another little circuit bending project done in time for the entrance, I ended up with a jerry-rigged little thing that I didn't really even do anything to. It was originally a little toy harmonica thing, I took it apart and found that if you just mash the area the buttons touch with your fingers it'll freak out from the inaccurate body contacts (or something like that) and then you can manipulate it a little further with a knob that was originally built in to control the tempo of the sound clips. It does sound cool, though, and I hooked up a 1/4" jack to it so I can record some stuff later, but I am a little disappointed that it's not any more impressive than it is. I relocated it into a new, bigger casing and its all melted holes and rubber bands right now, kind of pathetic. But I figure having a couple bent toys might help me stand out from the crowd a bit? I don't know anyone else doing it at school.
Saw Spoon tonight, they had a good show but their two boring-ass-one-man-and-a-guitar opening acts can bite me.
Also, while running errands and picking up art supplies today I realized that I am really really close to being completely broke - moreso than I thought, that is. My bank account has kind of gone from bad to worse in this last week. Which sucks since I've got to pay the cable bill soon. But we get paid early this week because of the holiday Monday, so hopefully I'll have enough on my check to cover me for the next week at least - my last check was a total joke. Maybe after this BFA thing I'll see about picking up extra hours on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school. I'm not 100% worried, I've got a good deal of savings hid away as backup, but I'd really rather not have to use them. We'll see.
Anyways, off to bed after I finish a drawing here...
DAMN.
I didn't do a single fucking worthwhile thing all day today. Stayed up way too late before work, not planning to do anything but ended up doing dishes all day cause the dish guy was sick, left a bunch of shit for the night crew, came home tired as hell. I tried to ride it out, but it was just too much for me, and I passed out around 4 after watching the tail ends of Young Frankenstein and Beetlejuice. I set my phone to wake me up after an hour, but I never even heard it go off. Woke up for a few seconds when Camilla came over later and was shouting about some shit (Mitch got a mohawk?), then resumed my comatose state until 11PM. Finally got up, ate a grilled cheese and some Doritos. The day comes full circle as I wash a few more dishes I've had stacking up around the house. How lame.

Tenatively planning on going to Art Basel down in Miami in December with the Art Students League, hopefully I'll have worked my way back out of being broke by then, because I'd like to stay at a hostel there with some friends, but it'd be something like $80 a night per person. Buuuuuuuut just in case that's still as steep then as it feels now, I've reserved a room across town for $40 a night thanks to my kickass employee discount.
BFA entrance this week, totally not ready, but feeling positve. Or at least, positively anxious.
Finger is doing alright these days, Mom told me it was probably alright to take off all the gauze I've had on it, but I've got butterfly bandages on it still. I need to find a big bandaid or something to wrap it up with, I'm not 100% cool with it being all exposed, but it does feel nice right now while I let it air out a bit.
Went to an Art Student's League meeting yesterday, and I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but sometime between this meeting and the one meeting I went to two years ago, the ASL actually got... cool? And there were people there and they were friendly and stuff? And I sort of got excited about the whole thing? I'm not sure exactly what all went down there, but I liked it enough to plan on going to the next meeting. Thinking about maybe making a flyer, too.
Saw The Ten last night with Aaron and his gang, not a bad time at all. No sir.
Been really busy lately, either with homework or with actual socializing and leaving the house. It's nice, having a life.
Used the lionfish stencil on a shirt for Jon today... used some weird transparent fabric paint, the colors didn't really get as dark as I'd have liked, but I'm still pleased with how it turned out.
BONUS: quick little video of Kid Koala scratching Slayer's "Reign in Blood" towards the end of his set last night. I didn't realize he played stuff that heavy, so I took a little snippet before my camera batteries died.
And if I didn't mention it before, it was an awesome show. Moon River, Skanky Panky, Things You Can Do from Deltron 3030, and previews of his new project and "mosquito scratching style"... all in all, one of the best shows I've ever been to.
